Grove Street Academy
The Grove Street Academy prides itself on providing a non-traditional classroom setting, offering emotionally and learning-disabled students a structured, personalized educational environment. Prescriptive and diagnostic strategies are developed to help students achieve educational goals established by New York State Standards and each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). We have a great deal to offer our special needs students:
-
- New York State-accredited 853 school for hard-to-place students.
- Special education therapeutic environment for day and residential male students ages 10-21, with a capacity of 48 students.
- Elementary grades 4 through 6 and middle school grades 7 and 8 in a 6:1:1 self-contained classroom that meets the state-required curriculum.
- High school curriculum in an 8:1:1 setting, designed to align with NYS Regents requirements.
- Teachers carefully follow the modifications and goals outlined in each student’s IEP.
- Smaller class sizes allow teachers to individualize instruction and modify classwork, focusing on a multisensory approach.
Our school environment is cellphone-free, calm, and quiet, which helps students regulate their emotions and avoid overstimulation. We have a specialized Redirection staff that bridges the gap between teaching and clinical support. The Redirection staff have expertise in de-escalation and emotionally supporting students to co-regulate and process conflicts.
